Letters from Leadership: Moving at the Speed of Change.

I was recently interviewing a candidate who asked what I liked most about working here at Indie. While the typical ‘people’ and ‘clients’ popped into my mind (this is true), I surprised myself with my answer: The speed at which we welcome and adapt to change. 

At Indie, we’re deep in a season of change. Each week, month, and quarter brings something new. And while the pace is exciting and energizing, constant change can feel intimidating. We’re seen as experts in a field that’s always shifting. Which means we’re often asked to have answers in real time, even as the next question is being asked. 

So where do we find the answers? Through action. 

I learned long ago that the antidote to uncertainty is action. When applied to the professional world, this means testing, learning and adjusting. And more often than not, the first idea doesn’t work.  

But what is masked as failure is often progress. Because when that first idea doesn’t work, it reveals an even better one. And this process of trial-and-error builds the confidence and courage we need to stay one step ahead of an ever-changing industry.

Moving with the speed of change is not for the perfectionist. It requires a mindset that welcomes failure in exchange for momentum. Because in today’s world, clinging to perfection is not only unrealistic, it’s counterproductive. 

Perfection slows us down. It creates a bottleneck and prevents us from getting the reps we need to learn and improve. Waiting for the perfect solution means missing the moment entirely.

As I reflect on my first year at Indie, I am in awe of our team and how open we are to change. We welcome it with open arms, even when it feels uncomfortable. And it is our curiosity and resiliency that will keep us moving forward. 

I can’t wait to see what’s next for Indie. But there’s one thing I know for sure: the only constant is change.
